Becoming a writer at SUNY Buffalo State

Attending SUNY Buffalo State has been an interesting experience for me. Undoubtedly, learning typically takes place in a classroom. However, I believe a student learns most outside of the classroom and that’s something I’ve cherished most. The last two years, and now third, has taught me a lot about myself. I have always been a creative and extraordinary woman. For my first year and a half at Buffalo State, I was majoring in Interior Design and Architecture. Unfortunately, I felt I was pursuing something I was not completely eager about. Although I am an innovative person, I realized that my true passion came from writing. I immediately shifted my focus towards Journalism and I’ve been dedicated since.

Outside of the study, I have been learning to fall in love with my solitude. Being away for school has taught me the importance of self-love. Being at BOSS allowed me to spend a lot of time exploring outside of school due to its location. This helped me become an artistic, cognitive thinker. I am currently managing two jobs and a communication internship at the Burchfield Penney Art Museum. I have created a personal blog which is currently a work in progress, but I am so happy with the shift it has taken.

During my years at BOSS, I always remembered being passionate about my writing courses. BOSS played a vital role in sculpting and shaping me as a person. BOSS was great to me filled with resources, experiences, location and thoughtful faculty. Once I began taking advantages of all the wonderful opportunities BOSS had to offer, I found myself growing as a woman. Ms. Butler and Ms. Berger helped enhance my writing through memorable experiences. The resources offered by Mr. Lanlokun led me down the path I took towards my scholarly choices and I will forever be grateful for having him as an academic advisor. Ms. Linder is one of the most influential people I’ve met. She always instilled a sense of confidence and believed in me. I was given the opportunity to be a part of the Morgan Stanley mentoring program, which was one of my favorite experiences at BOSS. Morgan Stanley taught me the importance of professionalism and the real world.

I never really thought of how much my life at BOSS influenced and shaped me until Dr. Solomon asked me to write this blog post. BOSS allowed me to be where I am today with the help of the caring teachers and advisors.
